Privacy Policy
Rope Access Logbook ("the app", "we") is an offline-first logbook for rope-access technicians. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it lives, and what choices you have. The short version: your logbook lives on your device. Cloud features are optional, and we don't sell data or show ads.
Data stored on your device
The app's primary database is local to your phone. It contains the records you create:
- Logbook entries — work dates, hours, tasks, heights, locations you type in, and NDT inspection records.
- Signatures — drawn signatures and signer details (name, certification level/number) captured when an entry is witnessed.
- Photos — work and certification photos you choose to attach. Camera and photo-library access is used only when you attach a photo.
- Gear records — your equipment inventory and inspection history.
- Profile details — your name and certification information, used to fill out entries and exports.
This data stays on your device unless you sign in and use a cloud feature described below.
Account and sign-in
The app uses Sign in with Apple, Google sign-in, or an email one-time code, processed by our authentication and backend provider Supabase. We receive the email address (or the private relay address Apple generates) and an account identifier. We use it to identify your account, attach your backups and subscription to it, and nothing else.
Cloud backup & restore (optional)
If you run a backup, your logbook data — entries, signatures, gear records, and attached photos — is uploaded to your account's private storage in Supabase so you can restore it onto another device. Backups are tied to your account and are not shared with other users or third parties.
Remote signing (optional)
When you request a remote signature, a one-time signing link is created for the entry. The supervisor who opens it sees the entry content they're being asked to attest to. Signing tokens are hashed before storage; the raw token is never persisted on a server. Completed signatures sync back into your logbook.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are purchased through Apple's App Store and managed by RevenueCat, which processes purchase receipts and subscription status on our behalf. We never see your payment details — Apple handles the transaction. RevenueCat receives an anonymous account identifier and purchase history needed to unlock your subscription across devices.
Notifications
Logging reminders are local notifications, scheduled entirely on your device. The app does not use push notifications and no notification data leaves your phone.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no sale of personal data — to anyone, ever.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
- No collection of your location. The app does not request location permission.
- No analytics profiles built on your logbook content. Your work records are yours.
Data retention and deletion
Local data persists until you delete it or remove the app. Cloud backups persist until you delete them or your account. To delete your account and all associated cloud data, use the account deletion option in the app's Account screen, or contact us at the address below and we'll process it promptly.
Security
Signed entries are protected by a cryptographic hash chain that makes tampering evident. Cloud data is transmitted over TLS and stored with per-account access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we design so that the most sensitive thing — your professional record — is verifiable and under your control.
Children
The app is a professional tool intended for working technicians and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
